Shields & Yarnell was born on the streets of San Francisco in the early 1970’s. Robert Shields had worked at the Hollywood Wax Museum and toured with a Canadian circus as Robbie the Robot. After performing at renaissance fairs and a brief stint as a student of Marcel Marceau in Paris, he moved to San Francisco and began performing his act in Union Square. Embraced by local columnist Herb Caen, Robert’s act soon became the top tourist attraction in town.

Lorene Yarnell began studying dance at the age of 4, and by the age of 15 was established in her career as a very successful variety performer, both on television and off-Broadway.
During one of these television performances, the two met and Lorene gave up the career she had worked so hard to hone. She moved to San Francisco where she learned mime and taught Robert dance.

They performed on the streets as a team, and their success and acclaim led them to a regular role on "The Sonny & Cher Show" and eventually their own show. Many fondly remember the robot characters, "The Clinkers," which they created at that time and still perform in their act to this day.
When the television show ended, Shields and Yarnell continued to perform – in Las Vegas, on Broadway, with orchestras across the country, and all around the world. Shields & Yarnell have performed on over 400 television shows. They have been described as "pioneers of the theatrical form of outrageous controlled insanity dubbed the ‘new vaudeville.’" They combine artistry from the past along with newer concepts, such as the use of voice-overs, soundtracks, and sound effects. Their spontaneous improvisation changes with the audience. With elasticity, unlimited invention, and boundless energy, they enter into a fantasy world, sweeping you along with them. Their gift is magic!
